Here's a view taken from the top of one of the grain bins at the Harrold, South Dakota staging site.  The view looks east in the late evening. Highway 14 is on the left.

Headed for the harvest are three of Johnson's combines pulling their headers.  This view was taken from the cab of the fourth combine in the procession.  There are two more combines following plus tractors with grain carts and semi tractors with hopper bottom trailers and maintenance trucks.  This is a genuine farm parade for the July 2008 harvest. The site is SR 47 south of Highmore.

The combines have headers attached and the first section has been harvested as a late evening sun draws over the vast plains of central South Dakota.

The next day finds wispy clouds watching over the parade of combines as they once again cut South Dakota's winter wheat crop.

As combines march away from the camera one is off-loading into a grain cart on the fly.

In the late evening sun another load of South Dakota winter wheat is off-loaded on the fly.

The combines run as long as the wheat moisture stays down.  Here is a majestic scene as the sun sets across the fields near Highmore, South Dakota. Jordan is at the controls this night.
